St Ives Chambers has substantial experience in personal injury matters and related litigation.  Members pride themselves on providing a high-quality service and are keen to assist clients as early as possible to ensure the litigation process is managed effectively.  Maintaining this philosophy has helped the Personal Injury group to develop rapidly and is the reason they are in instructed by claimants and defendants in courts nationwide.

Work covered ranges from modest claims to catastrophic injuries and members have noted strengths in:

  • Clinical negligence
  • Criminal compensation
  • Employers’ liability
  • Fatal accidents
  • Fraudulent claims
  • Highways Act claims (Highways Act 1980)
  • Industrial disease and hearing loss
  • Injury arising from housing disrepair
  • Inquests
  • Occupiers’ liability
  • Product liability
  • Road traffic accidents/credit hire
  • Sporting injury

The team increasingly undertakes court and advisory work on high value claims involving allegations of fraud, occupancy, low velocity impact and credit hire issues, as well as cases where an individual has suffered a permanent or acceleration injury.

More specialist areas—including hearing loss, asbestos related illnesses, VWF, respiratory illnesses and sexual abuse cases—are also covered, usually by senior counsel.

Paperwork

St Ives Chambers operates a standard 14-day turnaround on all written work. However, members are flexible and shorter times can be agreed if required. Please enquire with either of the group clerks if urgent completion of work is necessary.[TH1]

The Personal Injury team appreciates that unexpected fees can be frustrating.  If required, counsel can review a set of instructions and provide an indication of preparation times and therefore a more accurate cost of completing the work.

Small Claims Hearings

Due to the high volume of enquiries, to book Small Claims Hearings in RTA/Credit Hire cases please email civilclerks@stiveschambers.co.uk with the case details and hearing date and a member of the team will respond to you as soon as possible.

Facilities

Members are committed to assisting their clients to find the most proportionate and cost-effective way to resolve a dispute.  Chambers is well placed to offer facilities for parties to meet for mediation, settlement meetings or arbitration hearings.   Various rooms are available for such purposes and there is a wealth of technological and administrative support available as required.  Please ask either of the Personal Injury Team clerks for availability.

All members of the group are prepared to undertake private, insurance, conditional fee and publicly funded work where appropriate.

Please see the team’s e-alerts for the latest personal injury and clinical negligence updates.
