We are delighted to confirm that St Ives Chambers has been ranked as a leading set by the legal directory, the Legal 500.

30 different members of chambers have been ranked in six separate practice areas. Chambers enjoys 36 rankings in total. St Ives is ranked as top tier set in family law (children and matrimonial finance) and social housing. Chambers is also recommended in business and regulatory crime, general crime and property and construction.

Chambers is described as “A professional, friendly and efficient set’ which ‘offers a wide range of experienced and talented barristers’.”

The family law team is a “strong presence in family law, with a ‘full armoury of experienced, thoroughly professional, well-respected counsel’ providing coverage across both public and private children law, as well as a strong financial remedy team.” Jeremy Weston QC and Elizabeth Isaacs QC are both ranked as leading silks. Eleven juniors are ranked in child law and a further four juniors are ranked in divorce and financial remedy.

The tier 1 social housing team comes well recommended with a number of leading practitioners and wins recognition for the complexity and scope of its work. Five juniors are ranked, and one junior is recognised as a “rising star”.

Seven juniors are ranked within the criminal team which “has a growing reputation for criminal work, with instructing solicitors reporting that ‘their investment in the junior criminal bar has paid off, resulting in impressive strength-in-depth’ for the size of the team.”

Two juniors are also ranked as tier 1 juniors in business and regulatory crime.

Chambers’ property group is noted to have “significant experience across a wide range of issues, which ‘punches above its weight locally, and is ‘a go-to set for property matters in Birmingham’”. Five juniors are ranked within this team; more than any other set on the Midland Circuit in this area.

Head of Chambers, Jeremy Weston QC, said “I am delighted with the 2021 Legal 500 rankings which rightly recognise the phenomenal work undertaken by our members over the preceding 12 months. 2020 has been a year of considerable challenge for the whole of the legal system. I am proud that our members have managed to demonstrate their continued excellence in such challenging conditions.

I am particularly pleased to note that James Picken, Kevin Saunders, Michelle Caney, Tony Watkin, Anya Newman and David Nuttall are all ranked in more than one category.

Congratulations to all those members of chambers who are ranked”.
