Karamjit has a particular interest in sporting injuries due to his passion for basketball having been a member of Shropshire’s County Basketball Team. Karamjit has dealt with a number of cases of sportsmen and women suffering injury at the hands of other players or due to the negligence of organisers and has advised in a number of selection disputes.
In addition, in February 2014, Karamjit was appointed to chair one of the Football Association’s Anti-Discrimination Panels. In 2015, he was appointed to England Netball’s disciplinary and appeal panel and most recently to the British Gymnastics Disciplinary Panel.
Notable Cases
UKAD v Chinnu Sandhu [2017]
Mr Sandhu was a member of the British Wrestling Association. He had won numerous competitions including, eight British and five English championships. On 20 September 2016, Mr Sandhu was subject to an Out-of-Competition anti-doping test. The test results showed the presence of a non-specified substance under s1.1a of the WADA 2016 Prohibited list for Exogenous Anabolic Androgenic Steroids. Mr Sandhu was charged with an ADRV pursuant to ADR 2.1.
Karamjit appeared before The National Anti-Doping Panel on behalf of Mr Sandhu. Mr Sandhu admitted the findings of the doping test and argued the presence of which was unintentional. The Panel could not find that was the case. A four-year ban was imposed.
