Dispute Resolution

Andrew is a family finance specialist with extensive experience of dealing with financial disputes between separating spouses, civil partners and unmarried couples, under the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973, the Civil Partnership Act 2004, the Children Act 1989 and the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996.

In his practice as a barrister he deals regularly with cases of significant legal and/or factual complexity, both where the parties’ means are substantial and where the resources available for distribution are more modest.

He is often instructed in cases involving, for example, the alleged concealment or dissipation of assets; nuptial agreements; significant pre-acquired, inherited or other non-matrimonial wealth; farming assets; businesses, large and small; complex and valuable public service, Armed Forces or self-invested pensions; on- and off-shore trusts; jurisdictional issues; and substantial assets overseas.

He is recognised in the professional directories as one of the leading junior barristers in his field, ranked in ‘Band 1’ by Chambers & Partners and ‘Tier 1’ by the Legal 500.  Fuller details of their recommendations are set out below.

He is qualified as an arbitrator under the Institute of Family Law Arbitrators’ financial scheme.  He was one of the first two Birmingham barristers to so qualify and he has subsequently been involved in some of the region’s first arbitrated cases, both as an advocate and as the arbitrator.  To view his profile on the IFLA site please click here .

He has more recently been appointed to sit as a Recorder in the Family Court, hearing complex, high value financial claims as well as cases regarding the welfare of children.

He offers early neutral evaluations and private Financial Dispute Resolution appointments in cases where the parties require assistance in reaching a negotiated settlement, and arbitration in cases where they cannot do so.
