Practice Details :

Tony specialises in all areas of Housing, Landlord & Tenant work, representing both landlords and tenants.  He is regularly instructed on behalf of Local Authority and Housing Association Landlords in disrepair, anti-social behaviour and possession actions across the Midlands and further afield.

Tony has experience of presenting large, complex Anti-Social Behaviour Order applications in the Magistrates Court and on appeal to the Crown Court.  He has acted on behalf of local and police authorities in such applications against large groups of known drug dealers and prostitutes. He is also experienced in drafting applications for and appearing in ex parte Anti-Social Behaviour Injunctions under the Housing Act 1996.

Tony has acted on behalf of vulnerable and sometimes difficult tenants in housing disrepair matters and defending possession proceedings. 

In addition to court work Tony has given talks and seminars to private and local authority solicitors along with other members of the Housing Group on various aspects of Housing Law and Civil Litigation more generally. 

Notable Cases:

Birmingham City Council v Avril Lee [2008] EWCA (Civ) 891 – Junior Counsel in this important case interpreting the meaning and effect of the pre-action protocol on housing disrepair in costs claims.

Leicester City Council v Alvin Spencer Lewis (2001) 33 HLR 37 CA – Acted for the Appellant in an appeal to the court of appeal against a sentence of imprisonment imposed for breach of an anti-social behaviour order.
