Members of this group are
regularly involved in cases involving trade descriptions, food,
health and safety at work, consumer safety and trademarks. In fact
the group can offer experience and expertise in almost all areas
of regulatory law. Individual counsel have experience in the law
relating to sex establishments, taxis and public entertainments.
Some members of the group have particular interest and experience
in environmental law including waste regulation and pollution and
are instructed on a regular basis by the Environment Agency.
Individual members also have experience in planning matters. These
include prosecutions, appeals against the service of enforcement
notices, section 78 appeals and where the appeal has been "called
in" by the Secretary of State.
Whilst counsel are instructed for their advocacy experience in these
specialist areas, the importance of advisory work is never overlooked.
Members endeavour to return paperwork within a reasonable time and
are available to do urgent work if necessary even at very short
notice. Urgent instructions can be received by e-mail and a response
can be given via the same medium.
Some members of the group are experienced in taking seminars and
giving talks to both legal staff and officers on a variety of topics.
If you feel that this would be of interest to you please do not
hesitate to contact Chambers.
The group has an extensive client base that includes a large number
of local authorities, the Department for Work and Pensions and the
Environment Agency and other public authorities as well as receiving
instructions from solicitors in private practice. Members are involved
in both prosecution and defence work and appear in the Magistrates
Court, crown court and the appellate courts.
We acknowledge that different clients have their own particular
needs and requirements and cost is often an important factor when
instructing counsel. The members of the group accept work on a standard
fee basis for standard cases, which we feel can assist in trying
to estimate the costs to the lay client.
