Prison law has been one of the most fertile areas for judicial review over the last decade.  In recent years, the practicalities of administering the sentence of Imprisonment for the Public Protection is just one example of how this area has made the headlines.  St. Ives Chambers continues to use its experience to remain at the forefront of developments in this area.

Members also offer expertise in related fields of criminal law, inquests and judicial review, enabling those instructing to maintain continuity of counsel.

In addition to domestic proceedings the team has experience internationally in respect of advisory work and training on prison law and human rights issues throughout Eastern Europe and the CIS in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Turkey.  Members’ of the team are conversant with international human rights jurisprudence and able to conduct proceedings before International courts’ and tribunals, such as the European Court of Human Rights.
