St. Ive's Chambers are proud of its reputation,
which continues to grow, locally and nationally, for providing a
high level of committed service to both our lay and professional
clients.
Our depth of experience in advocacy and advisory work ranges across
a broad spectrum. We are fortunate to have members who are recognised
as highly regarded and notable members of the profession.
Our particular strengths lie in the areas of criminal law and family/child
care work. We have specialists in other fields including personal
injury, trading standards and environmental health, housing law,
commercial work, landlord and tenant and administrative work.
Services
Seminars
St. Ive's is committed to continuing professional development. We
run regular seminars in diverse fields of practice to meet the training
needs and requirements of members of chambers and our fellow professionals.
We are authorised by the Law Society as CPD providers for all of
our seminars. We are happy to provide seminars and training sessions
to meet the individual needs of our professional clients.
We welcome suggestions for new seminars which may assist you.
Listed below is a selection of our current presentations which you
are welcome to download in Word or PDF format.
If there is a topic that is not listed below that you wish to discuss
further, please do not hesitate to contact us at: information@stiveschambers.co.uk
For further details see the Seminars
page.
Mediation Service
In February 2004, Chambers launched its
Mediation Service. CEDR, the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution,
is the countrys leading provider of mediation accreditation
and training. It is internationally recognised as a standard of
excellence in the field of mediation.
For further details see the Mediation
Service section.
Conditional Fee Work and Pro Bono
Changes to the Legal Aid regulations have
further reduced the numbers of the members of the public who are
eligible for Legal Aid. As a result many more people are at risk
of being denied access to justice.
We are firmly committed to providing legal advice and advocacy on
a conditional fee or pro bono basis. The clerks will advise on those
members who accept conditional fee or pro bono work.
Conferences
Conferences are invariably an essential part
of the preparation of a case. With six conference rooms and a seminar
room, Chambers is well equipped to meet the needs of both professional
and lay clients. Chambers has facilities for disabled visitors.
We will do everything possible to accommodate the needs of solicitors
and lay clients in time and place. Where desirable or necessary,
conferences can be arranged at short notice and outside of normal
office hours or over the weekend. We are more than happy to hold
conferences at solicitors' offices, other convenient and suitable
venues or, in the case of illness or infirmity, at clients' homes.
For conferences in Chambers we offer car parking, subject to availability,
by prior arrangement.
Every effort is made to keep the cancellation of conferences to
a minimum, but occasionally commitments in court make cancellation
unavoidable. Where it is necessary to cancel a conference we aim
to give as much notice as possible to avoid wasted journeys and
time.
Direct Access
Many members of chambers accept direct access
work. This relatively recent innovation means that we can accept
instructions direct from a wide range of fellow professionals (including
accountants, engineers and surveyors) approved by the Bar Council,
without the intermediary services of a solicitor in independent
practice.
The clerks will be happy to assist with the costs of and procedure
for accepting direct access work.
