Jonathan
Gidney achieves accreditation as a CEDR Mediator
Mr
Gidney CEDR, the
Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution, is the countrys
leading professional body for Mediators. It was launched in
1990 as an independent, non profit making organisation with
the mission to encourage and develop mediation in commercial
and public sector disputes and civil litigation. CEDRs
mediation accreditation is internationally recognised as a standard
of excellence which is designed to ensure that parties to a
dispute can be confident that a mediator accredited by CEDR
provides the highest level of professional competence.
Chambers has now added a further string to its bow, by being
able to offer to a mediation service to clients, who are interested
in considering mediating their dispute instead of having a decision
imposed on them by a Court. Mediation can operate independently
of Court proceedings, or, as is increasingly the case, run parallel
to them.
In mediation both parties consent to a without prejudice meeting
which is designed to assist the parties in settling their own
dispute. Anything discussed at mediation can not be relied on
in any future Court proceedings and nothing is binding on the
parties until they sign an agreement (drawn up on the day of
mediation if circumstances allow) which settles their dispute.
Jonathan Gidney,
as an accredited CEDR mediator, will guide the parties through
all of the detail and issues surrounding their dispute and explore
possible ways forward, with a view to enabling the parties to
come to terms without the risk, delay and cost of Court proceedings.
Even the most apparently intractable disputes are solved in
this manner and Chambers is very pleased at being able to offer
this excellent service to its clients.

Legal Services
Commission Quality Mark
Chambers is currently making good progress in working towards
gaining the Legal Services Commission Quality Mark. We will
be applying to Legal Services for our preliminary audit shortly
and hopefully we will be awarded the Quality Mark thereafter.
The Quality Mark for the Bar is the quality standard for legal
information, advice, and specialist legal services. It comprises
a set of standards designed to ensure that Chambers is well
run and has its own quality control mechanisms that assure the
quality of the service it provides. Applicants for the Quality
Mark for the bar will need to comply with all the quality requirements
in the standard, and provide objective evidence of this compliance
to the Legal Services Commissions auditors. Chambers who
have gained the Quality Mark will benefit from increased client
confidence, improved client care, efficient management practices,
and a commitment to quality, resulting in meeting clients
varying needs.
