Practice details:
After having practiced on the North Eastern Circuit for several years, Karamjit joined St. Ives in 2008. He remains happy to travel throughout the country covering court centres from Birmingham to Newcastle, Preston and further afield.
The focus of Karamjit’s practice is personal injury litigation. His practice spans personal injury cases ranging from road traffic, employers and public liability claims as well as the more complex civil fraud allegations involving staged accidents.
Karamjit has developed a niche regulatory practice working extensively on behalf of licence holders in taxi licensing matters. He also often appears for local authorities in such cases.
Since 2007, Karamjit has been a part-time lecturer at BPP College of Professional Studies on the BVC. He regularly lectures on the Civil Litigation, Personal Injury Modules.
In addition, Karamjit has built on his already busy practice as a speaker for Central Law Training on its Personal Injury and Advocacy courses.

Notable personal Injury Cases
G Lodge v K Sargeant [2008]
Karamjit successfully appeared on behalf of the Claimant in a claim for damages arising out of a road traffic accident and helped to secure an award of £80,000. The issue in the case was whether the injury in question was an acceleration of a pre-existing condition or not.
I Cockle v Balfour Beatty [2008]
Karamjit successfully appeared on behalf of the Defendant in the Claimant’s claim for damages arising from an accident at work on a building site. The Claimant’s claim was based in negligence and under the provisions of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
Notable regulatory Cases
Luton Borough -v- M Jahangir [2009]
Karamjit appeared on behalf of the local authority in an appeal against an order of the Magistrates’ Court requiring the Council to pay the Respondent’s costs. The costs order was successfully overturned.
County Cars & Others v Sandwell MBC & Others [2006]
Application for judicial review in which the High Court clarified the jurisdiction of the Magistrates’ Court to consider challenges to a Council’s ability to regulate the taxi trade. Karamjit appeared on behalf of the Claimant.
Vale v Hastings Borough Council [2006]
Karamjit appeared on behalf of the Appellant in a case examining the lawfulness and reasonableness of the Council’s decision to impose a calendar meter condition and a condition requiring all private hire vehicles licensed by the authority to be white. Both conditions were successfully defeated.
