Stefano Nuvoloni is a barrister with 14 years experience working in child law and associated areas. He joined Chambers after practising in London for 7 years. He advises and represents local authorities, parents and children. Before joining the Bar he gained a Masters Degree in Medical Law and Ethics.

Mr Nuvoloni regularly appears in complex care proceedings involving, for example, child death, significant non-accidental injury, sexualised abuse and child trafficking. He frequently appears on behalf of individuals acting under a disability and represented by the Official Solicitor.  He is regularly led in such work and has appeared before the Court of Appeal and the Judicial Committee of the House of Lords. Mr Nuvoloni has a well established appeal practice, challenging decisions from proceedings in all levels of Court.

Mr Nuvoloni is regularly instructed to advise and appear in private law children cases, particularly those cases involving relocation and leave to remove applications, child abductions and the representation of children on behalf of Rule 9.5 Guardians.

Mr Nuvoloni has experience in cases involving the judicial review of local authorities’ actions and decision making in relation to family law and the Court of Protection.

Notable Cases

Mr Nuvoloni was junior counsel to the successful local authority in the leading authority dealing with care plans [Re S (Minors)(Care Order: Implementation of Care Plan); Re W (Minors)(Care Order: Adequacy of Care Plan) [2002] UKHL 10; [2002] 1 FLR 815]. He also recently represented the applicant local authority in a reported case dealing with the issue of parental consent under the new Adoption and Children Act 2002 [A Local Authority v C, G and X [2008] EWHC 2555 (Fam)].

He also represented one of the fathers in the leading case dealing with the issue of paternal consent and IVF treatment [Evans v Amicus Healthcare [2003] EWHC 2161 (Fam), [2004] 1 FLR 67 FD].

A recent appearance in the Court of Appeal, successfully challenging the actions of a local authority, was reported at Re S [2008] EWCA Civ 1140.

In addition to being Treasurer of Chambers he is also a member of the Chambers’ Management Committee and Treasurer, Stefano regularly lectures fellow barristers, solicitors and child care professionals on developments in case law and legislation and has recently conducted training for the Adoption and Children Act and Public Law Outline.
