Practice Details :

Nicholas Cole practises in Regulatory and environmental law and in all aspects of family law and Court of Protection work.

Nicholas is instructed by the Environment Agency, Health and Safety Executive, several Government Departments and many local authorities. A degree in biology and one year’s research experience into the effects of pollution on fish has given him a keen understanding of the scientific basis of such cases.

He specialises in all aspects of regulatory criminal work including trading standards, health and safety, animal health, all types of local authority work, fraud and some planning. He is regularly instructed by many of the local authorities in the region and on behalf of companies and individuals facing prosecution.

He has appeared in appeals to the Court of Appeal and in judicial review proceedings. He has an extensive experience of Human Rights challenges and has been appointed to the Attorney General’s Panel of Prosecution Advocates.

He has a substantial practise in all aspects of family law, including care, ancillary relief and private law applications. In care proceedings he is instructed by Local Authorities and on behalf of parents and children, frequently in cases involving non-accidental injury in the High Court and County Court. He has appeared in the Court of appeal in a number of family cases.

In ancillary relief cases his practice includes high value claims including businesses and farms. His attention to detail is often commented upon. He also undertakes ToLATA claims in cohabitation cases. He is undertaking work in the Court of Protection.

He also acts in housing matters, including disrepair (s. 11 and s.82 matters) and possession actions (anti-social behaviour). He is instructed on behalf of both tenants and social landlords.
